Eligibility for UPSC CAPF Exam

Before applying, aspirants must ensure they meet the following eligibility conditions as per official UPSC guidelines.

Nationality

  • Must be a citizen of India
  • Subjects of Nepal or Bhutan may also be eligible
  • Tibetan refugees who came before 1st January 1962 with intent of permanent settlement
  • Persons of Indian origin from Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Burma, East Africa, Vietnam — with permanent settlement intent, subject to government approval

Educational Qualification

  • Bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognized university
  • Final year students may apply provisionally
  • Degree certificate must be produced before the interview stage

Age Limit

  • Between 20 and 25 years of age
  • SC / ST: 5 years relaxation
  • OBC (Non-Creamy Layer): 3 years
  • Ex-Servicemen: 5 years
  • Central Govt. Civilian Employees: 5 years
  • Age calculated from cut-off date in official notification

Physical & Medical Standards

  • Must meet specified physical fitness and medical standards
  • Height, weight, chest expansion evaluated
  • Visual standards assessed (with or without glasses)
  • LASIK surgery permitted under specific conditions
📘 Pattern of UPSC CAPF Exam

The CAPF exam follows a three-stage selection process to evaluate candidates' mental aptitude, physical strength, and leadership skills.

Written Examination

Paper I — General Ability & Intelligence

Objective type (MCQs) · Duration: 2 Hours
General mental ability, current events, Indian polity, economy, geography & basic science.

250 Marks

Paper II — General Studies, Essay & Comprehension

Descriptive type · Duration: 3 Hours
Part A: Essay — social issues, internal security, environment etc.
Part B: Comprehension, grammar, précis writing.

200 Marks
📌 Note: Paper I is evaluated first; Paper II is evaluated only if Paper I cutoff is cleared. Negative marking is applicable in Paper I.

Only candidates who clear the written test are invited. Physical Efficiency Test components:

🎯 Service / Force Allocation — Detailed Guidelines

Basis of Allocation

Allocation to BSF, CRPF, CISF, ITBP, and SSB is made strictly on the basis of merit-cum-preference.

  • Candidates who score higher marks in the combined results of Written Exam, PET, and Interview will have priority in choosing their preferred service/force.
  • At the time of filling the online application form, candidates must indicate their order of preference for the forces. These preferences are taken into account during final allocation based on merit.
⚠️ Important: Once preferences are submitted online, they become the official basis for allocation. Candidates must consider their order of preference very carefully before submitting.

Gender Eligibility for Appointment

Both male and female candidates are eligible for appointment to the post of Assistant Commandant in all participating CAPFs, subject to fulfilling the physical and medical standards.
